The One Health Enterprise

I am really delighted and honored that my work on Developing a One Health Enterprise for a Complex Demographic Jurisdiction has been accepted for presentation at the American College of Preventive Medicine.

One Health the connection of all living things
One Health the connection of all living things

CDC, FDA, EPA, and USDA have highlighted the need for a One Health approach to address endemic, novel, and emerging global health threats. With the considerations of challenges of changing climates, the interaction of the natural world with industrialization and development, the issues that impact the environment, agriculture, and our ecosystem human and animal health require a concerted effort of expertise in the three sectors of human, animal and environmental health.

This presentation will illustrate and outline the challenges, requirements, and necessities of the creation and implementation of a One Health approach to disease prevention and management in Northern California jurisdiction that included a dense suburban sprawl region, rural, austere, and a global tourist and recreation hub, each with unique considerations for resource, management, and inherent challenge. Demographic breakdowns by region: for a population of 200,000 – 13,000 smalltown, 15,000 for a global tourist hub, 5,000 rural and forested areas, and 167,000 suburban basin for a metropolitan area. It will itemize the statutory powers and responsibilities for the distinct parties and the laws supporting same.

It will illustrate , of course the considerations as they apply to the H5/ Avian challenges of the past year but also to more pedestrian, but no less challenging situations such as algal blooms, rabies contacts, tularemia, and brucellosis.

I can't thank the selection committee enough for the opportunity to discuss this exciting work.
